Start a therapy case

warning

RehabAlpha is still under active development. It is not yet HIPAA compliant and should only be used with dummy data.

A therapy case is the home for one discipline's episode of care, such as PT, OT, or SLP. Start a case when a patient needs skilled therapy documentation for that discipline.

Before you start

Confirm that the patient has:

  • a patient record under the correct facility
  • an admission for the period of care
  • coverage and billing setup, if your organization tracks billing in RehabAlpha

Create the case

  1. Open the patient and select the admission.
  2. Click New case.
  3. Choose the discipline.
  4. Select the appropriate template when prompted.
  5. Enter a Start date on or after the admission date.
  6. Choose Weeks start on. Select a fixed weekday or Evaluation weekday to follow the initial evaluation's service date.
  7. Complete the remaining required case fields and save the case.

The evaluation can take place on the case start date or later. For example, a case can start on Monday and have its evaluation on Wednesday. With Evaluation weekday, its therapy weeks run Wednesday through Tuesday.

Your organization's Therapy week setting supplies the default for new cases. Changing that setting does not change existing cases. When a case uses Evaluation weekday, changing the evaluation date also changes the therapy week. Changing the case start date or adding a re-evaluation does not.

Until an evaluation is saved, evaluation-based weeks remain pending. You can still enter treatments manually. The evaluation form previews the week using the date you enter.

What comes next

After the case is created, document the evaluation. The evaluation establishes the plan of care and starts the clinical documentation trail for that case.
