Duration-based payment

Use the Duration-based payment payment model when reimbursement is based on the number of minutes furnished and the discipline that furnished them. You can use it in a payor reimbursement arrangement or a facility contract payment term.

Set a dollars-per-minute rate for each discipline that the payment terms cover. For example:

DisciplineExample rate per minute
PT$2.00
OT$2.50
SLP$3.00

For each CPT service line, RehabAlpha calculates:

Service-line reimbursement=Service minutes×Discipline dollars-per-minute rate\begin{alignedat}{3} \text{Service-line reimbursement} &={} & \text{Service minutes} &{}\times{}& \text{Discipline dollars-per-minute rate} \end{alignedat}

The reimbursement for the date is the sum of those service-line amounts. RehabAlpha calculates each service line independently. It does not convert minutes to units, round units, pool minutes across services, or allocate units between CPT codes for this payment model.

Configure discipline rates

Enter Dollars per minute for each discipline the payment terms cover.

  • Leave a discipline rate blank when that discipline is not covered by the payment terms.
  • Enter the same amount for each discipline when all disciplines use one rate.
  • If a service line has no recorded minutes or its discipline has no configured rate, RehabAlpha cannot calculate that line and shows a blocking invoice warning.

Example

A patient receives two PT services and one OT service. The payment terms specify 2.00perminuteforPTand2.00 per minute for PT and 2.50 per minute for OT.

PT9711020$2.00$40.00
PT9753010$2.00$20.00
OT9753512$2.50$30.00

The total reimbursement is $90.00.
